We’re Barbara and Michiel, the founders of The Unfold Academy. What began as a shared passion for human development and meaningful impact has grown into a deep commitment: real change starts within. When people understand themselves, and how they relate to others and the world, they show up differently. More grounded, more open, and more willing to help shape a connected, human future.
Michiel’s journey bridges commercial, creative, and purpose-driven worlds. From growing up in Singapore to working in microfinance in Nicaragua, and writing his thesis on single-use plastics before it was mainstream. He’s always been drawn to one question: How does human behaviour shape impact? As a certified coach, he brings a systemic and psychological lens to leadership; focused on inner growth, relational awareness, and lasting, people-driven change.
For over a decade, Barbara has walked alongside founders, teams, and leaders across startups, corporates, and VC/PE-backed companies. One question kept rising: Why are so many running faster, yet drifting further from their purpose, and the change the world truly needs? She witnessed a growing gap between head and heart, self and others, people and planet. The Unfold Academy was born to help bridge that gap and guide others back to what truly matters.
At Unfold Academy, we care deeply about how we lead and why it matters. We’re not your typical trainers. We’re practitioners, facilitators, and fellow travelers. We don’t just teach, we’re on this journey too, learning and growing alongside the people we work with.
